Is your cosmetics safe?

Many leading cosmetics brand you see out there are still using the old toxic mix in their production simply because, it is easier than changing. Yes, I am talking about harmful chemicals.
But the good news is many other companies have figured out how to make safer personal care products and are clearly responding well to consumer demand for safer cosmetics.
We have listed out a few ingredients you should avoid when you choose your cosmetics.
PARABENS
Parabens are chemical preservatives commonly used in cosmetics to prevent bacteria and fungus to potentially grow while sitting on the shelves.
The Bad: Acts like estrogen in the body - higher estrogen exposures are linked to breast cancer. Many products contain parabens (because they are used in other personal care products as well) - and the exposure adds up.
What to look out for on the label: Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Butylparaben or Ethyparaben (You get it, anything that has the word 'paraben' at the end).
BUTYLATED HYDROXYANISOLE (BHA) & BUTYLATED HYDROXYTOLUENE (BHT)
BHA and BHT are common preservatives found in personal care products (and also used as preservatives for food). It is used as an antioxidant in cosmetics products especially lipsticks and eyeshadows.
The Bad: These chemicals could cause endocrine disruption and organ-system toxicity
What to look out for on the label: BHA, BHT
ETHANOLAMINES
This chemical group, which comprises of amino acids and alcohols, act as a preservative in consumer products ranging from cosmetics to household cleaning products.
The Bad: Ethanolamines have been linked to liver tumors and causes environmental concerns.
What to look out for on the label: DEA, TEA and MEA.
CARBON BLACK
Usually used as a pigment for cosmetics like eyeliner, mascara and lipstick.
The Bad: Carbon Black is produced by incomplete combustion of carbon based products such a coal tar. This substance has been linked to increasing incidences of cancer and negatively effects the human organs.
What to look out for on the label: Carbon black, D & C Black No. 2, acetylene black, channel black, furnace black, lamp black and thermal black.
There are many other toxins that we should be aware of. Start choosing your cosmetics wisely because what you apply on your skin, goes into your body.
